Welcome to Alcorn State University Pre-Engineering Program. The
program is dedicated to providing programs that encourage young and
under-represented students to pursue careers in engineering. Our program is the
only one of its kind in the State of Mississippi.
Engineers are the link
between scientific discovery and practical application. They analyze problems
and develop design solutions. They may work with a variety of professionals
including scientists, technologists, business managers, doctors, lawyers, and
government officials, etc. They should be able to work as members of a team,
have an aptitude for mathematics, science, and have a capacity for
detail.
The Pre-Engineering Program allows students to complete the first
two years of an engineering curriculum at Alcorn and upon transfer, complete an
engineering degree at any fully accredited engineering institutions/programs.
Pre-Engineering students take their courses in sciences, humanities, and
fundamentals of engineering at Alcorn before transferring to a selected
accredited college/school of engineering. After transferring, and depending on
the college/school of engineering chosen, some additional prerequisite
coursework may be needed. Each pre-engineering student usually takes about
seventy-six credits at Alcorn, and is assisted by an academic advisor in the
selection of an appropriate program of study, in the choice of a college/school
of engineering, as well as the transfer process. |
